No Smoking Legislation.
On 1st July 2007, England will follow Scotland and the Republic of Ireland and bring in legislation preventing smoking in enclosed public places.
The Welsh Assembly also plan to introduce similar legislation on 2nd April with Northern Ireland following suit on the 30th April 2007.
Following these dates, almost all workplaces must be smoke free or employers face prosecution. Shared space has to be smoke free.
The legislation will improve the long-term health of the public in England by reducing the exposure to passive smoking which currently claims the lives of up to 1,000 non-smokers in England every year.
No smoking safety signs must be displayed at each public entrance in a position that is prominently visible to persons entering the premises.
The law will be enforced by local authority Environmental Health Officers, who will be able to give out fixed penalty notices to anyone who is committing, or committed an offence.
